Patrik Pion lives and works in Paris.
Together, Paule Combey and Patrik Pion have developed a complex and metaphysical video work. Year after year, a dense production has been built up without exhibition and without noise.
Large swathes of deep black are crossed by ghostly apparitions. A cold, dark atmosphere acts as an introspective filter for the viewer, who is given nothing about the makers of the images. They create a continuum of very short sound or visual sequences evoking psychic situations of thought blockage and outlining possible outcomes.
Their inspirations are strongly influenced by German Expressionist and Russian Constructivist cinema. As a counterpoint to the architecture, they use close-ups of everyday objects. The duration of the films is an integral part of their apprehension: it has to be experienced, braved and escaped. They favour a contemplation that refers us more to an abstract inner world than to any physical reality.
