Born in Oslo in 1955. He lives and works in Turin.
After studying art history in Bergen (Norway), where he began exhibiting his work in 1984, the artist went to study art in Italy, where his work was strongly influenced by Arte Povera. He gained international recognition in the 1990s.
His protean work blends photography, sculpture and installation, focusing on concerns about space. Balance and tension are key terms in the work of this artist, who says he wants to depict inner tensions, and overcome them through formal perfection to achieve a form of balance. Although the body is often absent or excluded, it remains a major element in his work.
He is represented by the following galleries: OSL Contemporary, Oslo; Giorgio Persano, Turin; Oliva Arauna, Madrid; Art Bärtchi & Cie, Geneva; Francesco Pantaleone, Palermo.
