Gathered together for the first time in an original setting, all the videos will be able to sketch out a new narrative that will proceed, as always with Franck Scurti, by associations of meaning and ideas.
The angle chosen here is unusual, even deliberately antinomian, when approaching the work of an artist who does not usually favour one medium over another. Since the mid-1990s, the artist has been working to destabilise the questions of style and authorship, while dissociating the notions of production and creation inherent in the ideology of the art project. By levelling out the signs of everyday life and those of high culture, the artist is also attempting to redefine hierarchies and values.
franck scurti
Franck Scurti was born in 1965 in Lyon and has lived in Paris since 1992.
He uses all media interchangeably: video, sculpture, installation…
His work is built around a reflection on art, social signs, and the reality of his time.
His pieces are often created from found materials and forms—things devoid of value that he carefully redefines by developing, each time, their logic of appearance.
Over time, this series of works gradually forms a narrative in which associations of meaning between each piece replace the notion of style or genre. This narrative refers to the Western history of representation originally established by religious or magical laws. It is permeated by the political, economic, and scientific forces that punctuate our daily lives.
