a vertical spreading

[Exhibition extended until 01.02.26]

The CCC OD invites Claire Chesnier to inhabit the white gallery with her recent paintings—each one unfolding as a space, a moment, a reminiscence, a recurrence. Every work is an interweaving of colors, transparencies, and luminous tones, applied layer upon layer. Across their surfaces emerges a horizontal partition of masses, irresistibly evoking a horizon line marking the point where earth meets sky.

For one of the gallery spaces, the artist is also developing a new light installation in collaboration with Olumee. This work will allow visitors to experience the temporality of her painting and to discover how its appearance shifts subtly throughout the different hours of the day.

« a vertical spreading » is part of a cycle of solo and group exhibitions by Claire Chesnier taking place in France and abroad from 2024 to 2026. It coincides with her participation in the exhibition “Dans le flou, de 1945 à nos jours,” curated by Claire Bernardi and Emilia Philippot, presented at the Musée de l’Orangerie, Paris, and at CaixaForum Madrid and Barcelona.

claire chesnier

Dance-trained, Claire Chesnier began exploring the corporeality of painting from an early age. Her practice—primarily focused on painting, but also encompassing drawing and writing—reflects a decisive encounter between the process of writing and the embodiment of an extended dance gesture. Her commitment to painting is grounded in a physical and poetic relationship to the world, an attentiveness to touch, and a sensitive interweaving of things and of life itself.

Claire Chesnier (b. 1986, lives and works in Paris, France) graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris and from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where she earned a PhD in Art and Art Sciences. She has received several awards, including the Prix agnès b. des Amis des Beaux-Arts de Paris, the Prix Talents Contemporains of the Fondation François Schneider, the Prix Art Collector, the Prix Fénéon of the Chancellerie des Universités de Paris, and the Prix Yishu 8 of the Maison des Arts de Pékin.

Her work is held in numerous public and private collections worldwide and has been featured in many solo and group exhibitions. She is represented by Galerie Ceysson & Bénétière (Paris, New York, Tokyo, Luxembourg, Geneva, Lyon, Saint-Étienne).
