les dîners de gulliver
The work «Dîner de Gulliver» was produced in 2007 by the Agence d’artistes, as part of the Grand Hôtel residency. Made with local businesses and artisans, it pays tribute to the art of living and eating well.
This is a standard garden table whose size is two and a half times larger than normal. Fully trained and equipped to accommodate six people, it is really «extra-ordinary».
A series of «Gulliver’s Dinners» was organized in different gastronomic restaurants of the Central Region on the occasion of the exhibition «Les Encombrants» at the CCC.
These are tailor-made meals designed by the chefs and their teams from this work, on which they are served. By inviting this huge table, restaurateurs have taken up a challenge related to all the usual aspects of their profession. In this, they did not fail to surprise us, to surprise us, to upset us perhaps. These challenges extend to the plate around which the simplest gestures related to the pleasures of the table, such as carrying a fork to his mouth or raising his glass, become a new experience.
lilian bourgeat
The artist was born in 1970 in Saint-Claude; he now lives and works in Dijon.
Lilian Bourgeat’s work is mainly characterised by the use of play and farce. Imbued with the artist’s sense of humour, his oversized and colourful “hyper realistic” objects are in fact visual traps that disrupt the spectator’s perception. Firstly amused by their playful aspect, we quickly realise our eyes have been tricked, as confusion arises.
The large scale of these objects keeps them at the limit between possible functionality and excessiveness. Although they reveal through their transformation a unique formal quality, it is the disarming situations their potential use could create that lie at the heart of Lilan Bourgeat’s work.
From the “Les Bulbulants” exhibition press release (2008)
Lilian Bourgeat is represented by the Galerie Lange et Pult.
